Duroblade-Soft Tip is an innovative way of coating paper and board. Contrary to hard-tipped blades, this blade – equipped with a soft blade tip – follows the contours of the base paper.
The working edge, made of malleable, forgiving elastomer material, can be compressed without negatively influencing the production process.
The blade can be run at high tip angles and ensures excellent fiber coverage.
Soft Tip blades are especially well-suited for coating of board; whether folded boxboard, liquid packaging board or test liner, the soft tip blade gives excellent results, high surface quality and outstanding printability.
It has also proven its use in barrier coating, with regard to such critical factors as moisture and oxygen permeability, sealability and printability.
The blade is an excellent – and less expensive – alternative to curtain coating, which requires not only completely new equipment but also the installation of a coating color loop, representing heavy investments in today’s competitive market.
Versus Airknife technology, Soft Tip can achieve a similar contour coating level at significantly increased speeds (up to 800m/min today), with, as a result, boosted machine productivity.
